This game is in collaboration with DADIU, where I teamed up with students across danish universities.
FINAL RENDER IN UNITY
Overcoming powerlessness
Set in an iridescent world, Tracebound is a fast-paced action-racing game where you play as Ayor, an ice skater who glides across the body of a colossal being.

MOODBOARD
designing as an art director
Muscles, tendons, organs and other grotesque imagery that are so close to us and yet so unsettling. Through this inspiration emerged a design where the giant had its insides exposed, wrapped in an outer shell of liquid serving as transparent skin. Mimicking translucent deep-sea creatures like jellyfish.
As an antithesis to the giant, the main character would have the ability to solidify and scate on the skin of the giant, like ice would freeze water. Inviting fast movement and taps into the flamboyant and elegant culture of ice skating, informing both design and animation.
VFX
Implementing an aesthetic vision
During production I took charge of lighting, post processing and integrating models into unity, to assess their compatibility and maintain an aesthetic overview. I supplemented with particles, placing assets, creating materials, skybox and much more, with the most time-consuming being shaders.
Unity Shaders
The liquid shell of a giant
The main challenge with the shader of the giant, was creating a viscous and voluminous substance that simulates how light enter the liquid and scatter. I had to fake this by imitatating subsurface scattering within and additionally add refraction, vertex displacement to make waves, fresnel to fake reflections, realistic interaction with light, calculating foam when it intersects and scrolling textures to animate the fluid.

ART Bible
Guiding the visuals
Finally an art bible made from a mix of illustrations from the team and references.
